  • The Influence of Groundwater Flux on Periphyton Growth

    SUMMARY

  • The aquatic biology in western rivers differs from that in the eastern U.S. Specifically, attached algae, or periphyton, play a major role in nutrient dynamics in the Truckee River.

  • The experimental setup (below) will evaluate the effect of groundwater flux on algae growth.

  • Results of this experiment will be used to quantify the role of periphyton on Truckee River water quality.

  • A better understanding of the influence of algae on in-stream water quality will allow for better management of the river.
