Baseline Ecological Monitoring:
McCarran Ranch Restoration Project
Lower Truckee River, Nevada (2003-2004)

A reach of the Truckee River at McCarran Ranch (Patrick, Nevada) is being restored to return the riparian floodplain and channel to a more natural state. A comprehensive suite of ecological parameters was monitored by DRI. ...continue....

Long-Term Monitoring
For over 30 years DRI has collected monthly grab samples of the Truckee River, from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake. This dataset is a critical long-term record of spatial and temporal variation in water quality.

Sediment Assessment and Model
DRI provided the technical analysis and review necessary to develop a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for the California Portion of the Truckee River.

Suspended Sediment Analysis
This project involves estimating the sediment load from the Truckee Basin and developing relationships between turbidity and sediment. Because turbidity can be collected remotely and continuously, it is a valuable surrogate for suspended sediment concentration.

Groundwater and Solute Transport in Fernley/Wadsworth
DRI hydrogeologists characterized the groundwater system in the Fernley Basin and determined the TDS loading to the Truckee River between the towns of Wadsworth and Nixon. A groundwater flow and transport model was constructed to integrate all of the available data and to predict the potential loadings under various management alternatives.

The Influence of Groundwater Flux on Periphyton Growth
To determine the influence of algae on in-stream water quality, DRI scientists designed laboratory experiments that simulate groundwater nutrient flux, promote periphyton algae growth, and measure the resultant change in nutrient concentration in the water column.

The Influence of Riparian Vegetation on Local Climate and River Temperature
The purpose of this study is to evaluate how climatic conditions vary between the Reno NOAA station and local habitats along the lower Truckee River.
